Sedation
Sedation/anxiolysis are terms used for series of small pills given to a patient to relax them and relieve their anxiety before and during a dental procedure. Used in medicine for many years, it has just recently been adapted for dentistry. During the procedure the patient is still awake and responds, but is in a dream like state. The next day the patient feels perfectly fine and has little or no memory of the procedure.
Sedation Dentistry is best suited for patients that have anxiety, fear, trouble getting numb and a strong gag reflex. It can also make it possible to have numerous procedures in just one appointment.
Dr. David Tribula and Dr. Nathalie McOmber both hold the New Jersey State permit for Oral Conscious sedation. Trained by national leaders in sedation dentistry, both doctors have treated numerous patients comfortably with this technique. They stay current on advances in this field by taking national seminars given by the Dental Organization of Sedation Dentistry.
